Gallery: a journey of feeling

Welcome to the online gallery of Lander Ver Eecke. Here a world unfolds where abstraction, matter and the essence of nature come together. Each work invites you to feel deeply and discover your own story. Be carried away by the tactile beauty and emotion that each canvas breathes.

lichen II

Lichen II is a large-scale exploration of one of nature’s most colourful yet overlooked life forms. Lichen exists in a vast spectrum of colour — fiery reds and oranges alongside cool greens and blues — often within a single organism.

This piece captures that contrast in one continuous gradient: a glowing core of red and orange dissolving into cooler tones of turquoise and blue. The surface, built with handmade paste, carries the same fine, granular texture found on lichen-covered stone — rough, layered, and alive with detail up close.

Fine cracks and natural variations run throughout the piece, formed as the paste dried and settled — each one unrepeatable.

Part of my Earthbound Abstraction series, Lichen II is a tribute to the quiet, colourful resilience of nature’s smallest survivors.

Pasta and acrylic on canvas — 80 × 120 cm

Lichen is a remarkable collaboration between fungi and algae. It thrives in the most extreme places on Earth — on bare rock faces, in the tundra, on ancient stones. With a palette of sulfurous yellow, gold, turquoise, and cobalt blue, it colors its surroundings in a quiet, slow manner.

The homemade texture paste was applied horizontally in rhythmic, layered strokes. The relief surface plays with light and shadow, creating an optical effect that changes depending on the viewing angle and lighting.

A unique original work. Ready to hang.

Kingfisher

I was guided by the striking colors of the kingfisher. Pulled the entire color range apart and used the colors in a different proportion. This together with the flowing movement that the pasta makes gives it something graceful

enjoy life!

The natural color variations in geology remain a constant source of inspiration for me. This time I have brought these elements together with a powerful emanation of energy. Enjoying life is a valuable lesson I learned from my illness last year. Looking back on my experiences, I realize that I create a life full of color.

colors of nature.

Geology served as my main inspiration for this work. The vibrant colors caused by mineral deposits on rocks, the unexpected combinations, the variations in temperature, and the force of plate tectonics.

Iceland

The geology of Iceland is truly fascinating, with its monumental basalt cliffs and phenomenal display of colour. This was the inspiration for my painting. With this work of art I want to draw attention to the beauty of nature. Only when we realize how beautiful our world is can we take good care of it.

fluid force

This painting is made up of elements such as search, doubt, strength and determination. It reflects a complex mix of emotions. Through the tight line structure, the various shades of red in combination with orange and dark shadows, as well as the small white accents, I try to capture all these feelings and character traits. The unique structure of the painting creates a surprising effect with changing light and from different viewing angles.

Dimensions: 80 x 120 cm. Made with paste, acrylic paint and gloss varnish.

structured chaos

This painting was made for a person who is chaotic in the head and still wants to get everything structured.  In the structured chaos, illuminating insights emerge. The painting is made up of applying paste, which is applied in an interplay of lines. Then several layers of paint were applied to create a depth of color. Finally, the whole thing is finished with a gloss varnish so that the colors become even more vibrant. The lines in the paste give the painting an extra dimension.

Divisibility

I created this painting for someone very close to my heart. You can think of the work as a vertical journey, starting at the top and moving slowly downwards. It represents a limited world that is safe, but where little happens for humans. This meets certain expectations.
The middle part offers new impulses, wonder and curiosity, but also positivity and beauty. An important question that arises is: what do I take with me from here? The bottom part represents the temporary result of what you bring into your own world, and how you deal with new stimuli and insights. You can experience this experience again every time, such as reading a book, visiting a museum, seeing a movie, or even through a life experience...

Own little world

I made this painting during my chemotherapy treatments. It depicts the frightening world of illness, being ill and the struggle for survival. Time felt like something transparent; you are in a haze fighting your own battle, searching for peace. The unpredictability of nausea contrasted with moments of calm fills me with happiness when things get better, and later with a deeper gratitude.

Between dream and reality

A dream or fantasy rarely matches reality perfectly, and vice versa. Sometimes reality exceeds our expectations, while other times our dreams prove more attractive.
When I create a painting, I explore both sides, which makes the process both fascinating and challenging. The irregularity of the upper part of the painting is reminiscent of something weathered; something that has dried out, like cracked earth. In nature this can reveal a stunning beauty, with its irregular shapes, deeper cracks and rich palette of colours. The lower part, on the other hand, is a simple plain with a single, flat red color.
Yet this creates an exciting contrast with the complexity of the upper part. These two extremes reflect our search for stimulation and peace, both in our dreams and in reality.
